Lu Mazen is a visual artist, who lives in Munich and the Black Forest, Germany. Her art incorporates themes
of identity, place, memory and place. She uses varied artistic expressions that include photography,
mixed media and video. Her focus is on still lives and images of place in the form of still lives. She
portray the strange moments of daily life.

Bio:

“I was born in 1966 in the Black Forest and attended renowned universities in Germany, Uk and
Canada, where I studied Liberal Arts, sciences and philosophy (MPhil, University of St. Andrews).
Then, I travelled from North America to Mexico and in Europe. I worked in Korea for 2 years, crossed
Asia, focusing on Nepal, Japan, China, Vietnam and Mongolia. I attended master courses at Magnum,
ICP NY, Arles and Fotohof Salzburg. Teachers were e.g. Josef Schulz, Sonja Braas, Oded Wagenstein.
In 2020, I completed a masterclass with Jean-Christian Bourcat, Nicolas Havette and Jane Evelyn
Atwood at Oeildeep, Paris and a Salzburg Summer Academy with Eli Cortinas. In 2021, I got accepted
to the New York School of Visual Arts Residency and the WSG Residency with Natasha Caruana.
I have exhibited at international art festivals such as Format and Reclaim/UK or Kuala Lumpur, at art
institutions and galleries such as Ingo Seufert and Litvai Gallery in Germany, Tina Goncalvez Gallery
in Portugal and Unique Contemporary in Italy. I have successfully contributed to many art and
photography prizes and have become 3. Prize winner of the Alzey-Worms Art prize in 2016. I turned
bronze winner at Px3 2015, finalist e.g. at Premio Arte Laguna 2015, The Swiss Photo Club Awards
2019, the ARTIG Art prize offered by the art association in Kempten 2016 and the South West
German Art Prize 2018. I was in the initial selection for Athens photo festival 2024, Belfast 2022 (top
20%) and nominated for the star award for the project “Beyond the Wild”. My handmade book „False
Moons“ was a finalist in the 2020 9th Rendez-Vous-Images festival in France. Photos are held in public
and private collections in Germany, USA and New Zealand.”
